National Productivity Investment Fund

In the 2016 Autumn Statement, the government announced the creation of a new National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF). This is to provide funding for local highway and other local transport improvements.

The Fund aims to:

  • reduce congestion at key locations
  • upgrade or improve the maintenance of local highway assets across England, outside London
  • improve access to employment and housing
  • develop economic and job creation opportunities

For 2017 to 2018, £185 million is available which has been allocated using a formulaic approach. Bracknell's allocation is £382,000.

We intend to use our allocation to help fund capacity improvements and make our network more resilient on the following key strategic area in Bracknell:

  • A329 – London Road

The government has announced an additional opportunity for local authorities to bid for a share of a further £490 million from the NPIF. This will enable local authorities to improve their local road networks in support of economic growth plans. The competition runs until 30 June.

Bracknell has submitted a bid to remove a pinch point on the A322/A329 that links the M3 to the M4. We would create a dual carriage way in both directions. We would also make improvements to bus priority measures which currently restrict strategic road movement. This project would be the final part of an extensive programme carried out over the last 5 years.
