As part of the government’s roadmap to cautiously lift restrictions, businesses of all sizes, including those with fewer than 50 employees, can now register to order free lateral flow tests for their employees.
Around 1 in 3 people with coronavirus don’t have symptoms, which means they could be spreading the virus in workplaces without knowing. Rapid testing helps identify those who have the virus without symptoms, meaning positive cases can isolate immediately, breaking chains of transmission. These tests are simple to carry out and results are delivered within 30 minutes.
Regular testing could be the difference between a workplace being able to stay open and operational, or needing to close due to a COVID-19 outbreak. It will form a crucial part of the government’s plan to gradually and safely ease restrictions as we get back to a more normal life.
Businesses are encouraged to register interest by 31 March to access free workplace testing, which will be available until the end of June 2021. All those who can continue to work from home should do so.
You can register to order free rapid lateral flow coronavirus tests for your employees on GOV.UK.
We appreciate that arranging to get testing equipment directly from the government and setting up onsite testing can take time. Until these facilities are set up, businesses should send any staff who leave their home to work to get tested at one of our community test sites. Testing should be carried out twice a week and can be done at whichever centre is most convenient.
